Research for sustainable development
How do we promote innovative and effective ventures?

Our Research

At the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, our research explores how entrepreneurial behaviour and innovation processes contribute to the sustainable transformation of the economy and society. Our interdisciplinary approach covers the psychological foundations of entrepreneurial decision-making, sustainable business models, and entrepreneurship in emerging economies. We also delve into strategic, behavioural, and data-driven innovation management, with a particular focus on the agricultural sector. Together, we develop research-based approaches to foster entrepreneurial solutions for the major challenges of our time.

Research at the Chair of Entrepreneurial Behaviour

We adopt a holistic, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary perspective on entrepreneurship, recognizing it as a catalyst for social change. Our research investigates how entrepreneurs can effectively contribute to sustainable social development, focusing on theory-based empirical studies. Our work is driven by four overarching questions and focal points:

  1. Antecedents of Entrepreneurial Behaviour: How can entrepreneurial behaviour be predicted? (This research area connects psychology and entrepreneurship, exploring how startups emerge and how founders make decisions.)

  2. Sustainable Entrepreneurial Behaviour: How can founders develop sustainable business models and become drivers of innovation for the major challenges of our time? (This includes exploring regenerative entrepreneurship inspired by agriculture.)

  3. Entrepreneurial Behaviour in Emerging Economies: We examine the mechanisms that promote or inhibit entrepreneurship in developing and emerging countries, where it can be particularly beneficial.

  4. Dynamics of Entrepreneurial Behaviour: How do entrepreneurs adapt and transform their behaviour in response to factors like technological progress and climate change?

Research at the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management in Agribusiness

Our team conducts interdisciplinary research in strategic, behavioral, and computer-based technology and innovation management, specifically at the intersection with entrepreneurship.

Innovation and technology are crucial for addressing the increasingly complex challenges of the future, not only in a general business context but especially within agribusiness. We explore how innovation and new technologies can drive sustainable and economic development in companies, while also considering their broader societal implications and challenges. Our research is deeply interdisciplinary and frequently involves consortia with partners from industry and academia.

Our research activities are structured around three main areas, each approached from a business perspective:

  • Strategic Technology and Innovation Management: We investigate how companies can strategically foster and utilize technologies and innovations to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage.
  • Behavioural Technology and Innovation Management: We examine the organizational actions companies must take to generate new technologies and innovations and leverage them optimally.
  • Computer-Based Technology and Innovation Management: We explore how computer-based tools and methods can help companies develop innovative technologies and apply them profitably.

These three core areas and their interfaces form the foundation of our research agenda, aiming to deliver both theoretical-empirical and practical insights to meet the dynamic demands of modern society.
